Dear Cosima, what made you think of stylish loungewear right now?
I always enjoy being on the go, but I’ve also always loved being at home. Even as a child, I learned from my family that coming home means “shedding the dust of travel—and slipping into a soft, cozy set of loungewear.” Whether it’s dresses, jumpsuits, or robes—especially in an elegant, cozy style—they make being at home something special. They invite you to linger—to not always be on the go. They underscore that warm, cozy feeling of home. When you leave the house, you dress very differently, always depending on the appointment or occasion. It could be a focused business meeting, a casual workout with friends, a glamorous party, dinner with friends, or many other things… Now, for the time spent at home, there should also be special clothing that elegantly stands up to the trendy, casual “loungewear look”:
MyMorgenrock—dressed for home.
During the design phases, my first priority was the cut, which creates an elegant silhouette for wearing at home. Second, of course, were the carefully selected materials, which caress the skin and foster a sense of physical well-being. The MyMorgenrock collection aims to help you feel comfortable and elegant at home while always looking your best. But whether you’re walking the dog, shopping at the weekly market, or heading to a dinner party in the evening… the MyMorgenrock collection is incredibly versatile!
How did you make the transition from traditional brand and marketing consulting to launching your own fashion label?
I’ve always enjoyed having clothes made based on my own designs. In addition, during my 20-year career as a brand and marketing consultant for medical practices, I’ve designed custom practice uniforms for the medical and support staff on behalf of some of my clients. And on top of that… I’ve always had a soft spot for fabrics. I’d like to share a little anecdote about that:
As a child, I often visited my grandparents’ attic, where things had been piling up for—believe it or not—100 years. To me, it was like a huge, oversized treasure chest. One day, I found a piece of silk fabric neatly folded there. My grandmother explained to me that these had once been silk curtains that hung in the living room during my great-grandmother’s time. She let me take the silk curtain with me, and I thought to myself, “I’ll have something tailored from this someday…” Today I’m 50 years old. That fabric moved with me—neatly folded—into my first apartment after I graduated from high school. Since then, I’ve moved four more times. That silk fabric was always neatly folded and tucked away in my “ideas closet” in each new home. To this day, I’ve never had anything made from it because I’ve always saved it for a very special piece. But the fabric is in perfect condition—no holes and no wear and tear.
Have you always had a keen interest in fashion?
Not really. However, my perception and appreciation of fashion and clothing changed fundamentally some time ago. The turning point came when I was rummaging through my mother’s archival closet. The closet is filled with clothes she wore on special occasions and has kept forever. When I opened the closet a few months ago, stories of special moments and events from my mother’s life came flooding back to me. This closet is filled with so much more than just fabrics and colors. It’s filled with emotions that are just as powerful as the smell of old books, the melody of old music, or the sight of faded photos. That was yet another reason why I decided to design and produce my own fashion. Clothing can generally protect us from external influences and provide a comfortable, secure feeling. But fashion can also express the individual, boost self-confidence, and actually give us mental strength.
Why did you decide to focus specifically on clothing designed to be worn at home?
Home is a special place. Here, you’re usually out of the public eye; you can find peace, pamper yourself and your family, and recharge your batteries. In my opinion, having a home and spending time there is especially important for nurturing your soul and health. The clothes you wear at home also play a role in this. Changing into a different outfit when you get home can help you start to relax. Your skin feels the soft, high-quality fabrics, and that sends feelings of happiness to your brain. Plus, nothing pinches, nothing is too tight—you feel liberated. Nevertheless—and this is the unique aspect I aim to achieve with MyMorgenrock—style, elegance, and sophistication shouldn’t be left behind at home. Everyone should consider themselves worthy of being exceptionally well-dressed at all times. For me, that means designing cuts that flatter the figure and selecting the finest materials—ones that are high-quality, gentle on the skin, and durable. Simply put: fantastic loungewear that always makes you feel special.
